I really hate balloons

I was out running some errands with Avery and Peyton yesterday. I decided to stop in a furniture store and see what they had in the way of dining room tables. We really need a new and bigger one. I've been trying to find one I like, but doesn't cost a million dollars for several months. I also need one that's nice, but not fancy. Strong and utilitarian, but not ugly. It does have to stand up to 4 kids after all. If anyone caught my subtle hint for suggestions on where to go, please feel free to share.

We walked into the store and as soon as the salesman saw us, he asked Avery if she wanted a balloon. Did she want a balloon? What was he? Crazy? Of course she wanted a balloon. (Why did I let her have one?) He asked if Peyton wanted one too. I knew he would have it off his wrist and let it float away in about 2 seconds. So, I nixed that. We browsed for a bit, didn't find anything good and then left. The whole time we were in there, Avery was talking to the balloon and calling it "balloonie". She decided balloonie was her best friend and told him/her that she was going to love them forever. I inwardly groaned and prayed that balloonie would soon pop. I can't stand what balloons do to my kids. They get obsessed with them and that is not an exaggeration. They cause fights, tears and headaches from the moment they get them until they are flat and dead. Peyton was so overstimulated yesterday by Avery's he looked like he was on speed. He wanted that balloon so bad he was frantic and looked absolutely crazy trying to get at it. Actually, he looked pretty funny too and I did laugh over it, but that's beside the point. My point to all of this is I hate balloons. I mean, just a few minutes ago, Avery brought balloonie to me (it actually has some helium left in it and is still floating, I just can't wait until it goes flat and she cries over it, hooray), told me I hadn't kissed him/her in forever and then made me do it. I hate balloons.

I'm indifferent to them, but I don't have kids. Go figure.

Oh honey I hear ya!
I'm not a balloon lover either. J does much better now but oh boy was it ugly for a while.

Thankfully, we're passed that stage. Although, somehow, my kids' balloons always mysteriously died of a sudden illness. It was SO weird! ;)

And when you find a table that meets your criteria, let me know where you found it, okay? I've been on the hunt, as well. I'm looking for black.

I hated them for that very reason when you were kids. They drive me crazy and I just want to pop them when I see them

As soon as they stop floating I take scissors to them so I can throw them away!

I would look at IKEA for a table, but that's just because I love the store. I don't actually know much about their tables.

I hate balloons too. We have this bird called the balloon bird. She comes and steals them out of the car windows as we drive away from said insane location that is handing out the miserable creations. The balloons just "happen" to blow out and open window and away they go!?

I hate balloons too. We got a few when Oaklen was born and Salem played with them that first day he was born when my hormones were raging, it was a challenge.

Changing subjects, I just got a letter from a furniture store in Sugarhouse going out of business. Linda's Furniture on Highland and about 3300 S. They're having a "private sale" Thurs-Sat and you can only shop there if you have this letter. There might be good deals.

You can subscribe to craigslist via RSS for a specific search. You could search for "table under $200" and get an RSS update whenever someone posts something with that word in the post and it's under the amount specified.

You can also subscribe to KSL via RSS though you can't do a customized search like craigslist.

Heather - Thanks for the info. I'm waiting on our tax returns to be deposited before I buy a table. We e-filed last week, so it should be soon. I don't know if they would be here soon enough for that sale. I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Oh my gosh!! I hate them too. Ashley is ten, and Haley is seven, and good grief, they still behave like two year olds when it comes to balloons.

I HATE Baloons too. I can't stand the fights they cause in my house. Not to mention that rough housing and noise. Because they can't just look at the dang thing. They must hit it in the air and to each other and everywhere all the while they are jumping and screaming.... in the house!!

Oh that is so funny! I can picture her making you kiss the balloon. I also hate them because of the said fights, tears, and tantrums that they cause at our house as well but I remember LOVING them as a kid!

Hi Everybody, I absolutely hate Balloons. I can´t stand the sound if my kids rub them on the floor or their clothes, i hate it when i´m working in the kitchen and every minute a balloon is landing on the sideboard. If my kids have balloons at home, every evening i´m going upstairs to their rooms and talk to them, the balloons have to go, because they know, every balloon has to go before sleeping. Mostly i take a small pencil or a pin that works best. Call me a balloon murderer, but i have to do it :-)
