Remember how I said she's been horrid? Well, here's another example

Last week, I made cheese enchiladas for dinner. All of the kids complained mightily about having to eat them. I have no idea why they hate them so badly, but hate them they do. And yet, I still continue to make them. I'm a glutton for punishment I suppose. I punish my kids by making them eat them and I punish myself because then I have to listen to the complaints. Anyway, I fed myself and Peyton (the only one who wasn't complaining) and then I took him downstairs to give him a bath. I left the responsibility of force feeding the rest to Ryan.

Ryan was going in and out of the kitchen because he was doing some work. Every time he would pass through, he would make the kids eat another bite. During one of his moments away, Avery saw her opportunity and left the room. A few minutes later Ryan came back into the kitchen, but didn't notice that Avery wasn't there. He told Tyler to finish up and Tyler was whining and crying about it. He didn't want to, it was disgusting, why did he have to eat it, we were mean parents for making him. Suddenly, I heard Avery call up the stairs from the family room to Tyler. (I hadn't even heard her come down.) She said, "Tyler, just do what I did. Sneak away." Yep. She's still being horrid.

I can only say I'm sure she'll grow out of it...I couldn't decide whether to put an exclamation mark or a question mark, because sometimes it feels like forever.

Good luck!

Wishing I had some helpful advice. With a RAD kid I would snuggle her up more, a few times a day to see if it helped with behavior but I have no idea with a bio child. Sorry....
Have you read 99 Ways to Drive Your Child Sane, by Brita St. Clair? It has awesome ideas how to change it up on kids. It's one of my favorite books and I go back to it again and again.

Can't offer help with the food issues. I for one use to wait out my parents and stick the food in our heating vents causing lots of mold and rotten food down the line. Sneaking away in my case would have been mild. I know though what your dealing with is bigger, wish I could help. Praying for patience on your part.

Ahhh, food. My first love in life. Now, that is. Sorry to The Husband. But it is true. Yet, when I was a kid, I was a super picky eater.

With my kids, if they don't like something, they need to find something to eat on their own. It doesn't have to be anything complicated. My boys, who are six, make "Gabrio Specials" which are tortillas with a slice of cheese nuked in the microwave for 15 seconds, then rolled up. Or they will make a peanut butter sandwich. We will only help minimally. It eliminates complaining and a lot of the time they are so lazy that they won't make themselves something and suddenly decide that they "love dinner!". Ha ha.

Sorry but I laughed when I "heard" her little voice in my head as I was reading this. I know it's not funny but I think it might be later. Hee,hee she is so cute!

She is just brilliant! She had to tell the others how to get away. Silver lining: she is very empathetic for others AND smart.

Ha ha, it is kind of funny. But certainly not what you'd like to have happen on a regular basis! Good luck!

Horrid maybe, but also extremely creative and funny!

Duh.... Why didn't Tyler think of that!! It's funny when it's not my house!! Sorry Christa. You're in my prayers.

Sorry! I too am laughing at this a bit. So funny when it's not my kids I'm sure. I used to just sneak to the bathroom with a mouthful of food and spit it in the toilet.
