A strong sense of entitlement (200)

Avery is starting to develop a bit of a teenager complex. As in, she thinks that she is one. I'm always reminding all of my children that I, in fact, am the parent. Not them. Therefore, they must do what I say. Well, the other day, Avery wanted to do something and I wouldn't let her. She said in that duh tone of voice that I've talked about before and all teenagers do really well, "Uhhh...I'm a parent too you know." I said, "Ummm...no really you aren't." She said, "well I'm tall." Apparently, height equates authority and parenthood, thereby entitling you to certain things.

Another example: I was doing laundry last week and Avery strolled into the room and asked me if I would make her some toast. I told her sure that she just had to wait until I was done putting clothes into the dryer. She said, "but I'm the most special-est Queen Avery. You have to do it now." Can you tell that she's the only girl?

Now, you may have noticed that this post serves a twofold purpose. It is post #200. Let my contest commence. Is anyone else as happy as I am? My fingers are shaking and making it difficult to type. My whole body is just vibrating with the joy I'm feeling. I'm hyperventilating and may have to put my head between my legs to keep from fainting. I'm just that excited.

So, here's how this will work. Since this is a first time thing for me, I'm going to be a big, fat copy cat and run this little affair they way I've seen others (Kristina) run theirs. Leave a comment on this post and you have entered. If you post on your own blog about this contest and then let me know, you will get a double entry. I will then use Random.org to select the winner. If you are the randomly selected extra, special person, you will be entitled to receive $25 American Express Gift Card. (I wanted it to be a $20 gift card so that you could think of it as receiving a penny for every post. I think that's right. I'm not so good with math. But, noooo, they don't make that denomination.) I'm going to allow comments to be made for 200 hours. That means that it will close on October 10th after 8 days and 8 hours. (Because that adds up to 200.) According to my clock, it is now 2:26 p.m. I'm going to begin the contest now. It will end on the 10th at 10:26 p.m. Comments made after that will not be part of the randomness. Now, I'm pretty sure that I will be attending Kristina's Meet & Greet on the 11th. If I do, and if I remember to select the random person the night before and if you happen to be attending the same soiree, you will have the fabulous opportunity to receive your gift then.

I'm now calling out (AGAIN) all friends and family who read my blog, yet never leave a comment. Quit being scaredy cats and just leave one already. Don't you want to have the opportunity to reap the benefits of my tremendous generosity? You can do it. I know you can. The more the merrier.

Good luck to all!

Yay giveaways! I will post about yours tomorrow.

I'm happy you're coming on the 11th.

And, seriously, hardly any people in my real life entered the drawing. I think maybe 6 did. Out of 140 comments so far!!

Kristina - and now you have a double entry.

Yay for post #200! I don't even know which number I'm on.

Hardly anyone in my real life posts comments on my blog. Why is that?? Maybe they feel like they talk to me enough already. :p

I should do a contest like this on mine. I know that my blog is looked at way more than people comment. I don't expect people to make comments on every post, but man..it would be nice if they said hi every once in a while!

It is fun to be in touch with you again!

YEAH!! YEAH!! PICK ME!! PICK ME!! It is my b-day in 23 days so I think I should be teh WINNER!! hahahahaha!! (0;

My girls think that they are teenagers too. Matter of fact Olivia said to me the other day, "My birthday is October 20th and I will be 17". Good times!!

I've had to tell Salem that "you're not the parent" either. I didn't think I said it that much but my mom said that one time she was tending him and he said it! What are we going to do? :)

Happy 200th!

I wonder how many random comments you will be getting? This is a great idea to see where people are coming from!

I posted your contest on the 94 class blog too... I wonder if we'll round up more farmers that way!

Thanks Christa!

Christa,

I saw this on Kristen's blog and remembered you from this summer. I was Tyler's teacher at Beyond the Basics. What a fun clever idea to do a giveaway. I hope Tyler is having a fun year in school!

Christa, you crack me up all the time! I'm sorry I don't always leave comments. I like having comments, too, so I suppose it's sort of like letter writing, eh? Write a letter, and usually someone will write back! :) I think I'll go stick your contest up on my blog. I should do a giveaway, too...although, I'm not sure what I'd give away...maybe one of my kids! Ha! Just kidding! :)

Richelle said...

I came here from Emily's (Happy Wanderers) blog. Congrats on 200 posts!

ladyshanae said...

Congrats on 200 posts! I'm too lazy to do any contests on my blog, but that could be part of being in my 8th month of pregnancy, who knows...

Anyway - Emily posted about this and you seem like a fun person to get to know! So, who knows, I might be poking back in and reading more! And maybe even commenting! *GASP*

Thanks for scaring me about this whole girl thing. I'm already nervous enough... HAHA!

Oh, and the whole who's the parent thing? The butterfly got lectured by her pediatrician today that it is NOT appropriate to give your mother a time out! She was told there was only ONE parent in the family. Maybe I could send her your way....

I've only recently gotten into this blog-stalking thing (pretty much today). My sister had a link to sharkbait, who had a comment that I loved made by Kristina P, and now, here I am. This is really fun! (oh, and thanks for the giveaway!)

Erin said...

Good news for you, Christa. I've also mostly come out of the blog stalking closet and have left many comments sans inhibition on stranger's blogs. Not strange people, mind you. Isn't it so great to come clean? Now I can stalk you, too!

Happy 200th!

I'm at sprouted(nospace)writing at gmail (period) com. My Wordpres blog won't agree with the comment form right now.

I'm prepared to be a winner.

Congrats on 200, that is a big number and I had better start typing if I ever hope to be at that level. I too have children and they also think they are adults, oh wait a minute, they are adults and can I tell you it is so good seeing the same things happen to them with their children that they did to me.

I am blog stalking and would love a little entry---
unfortunately for me it is just one today. My computer is super touchy and I haven't got my posts to work today- I am commenting on hubby's laptop and time is precious, but maybe that means I will win for this great sacrifice.

Congrats on 200!
