I started to sew (153)

I said that I wanted to start doing some more sewing. Not for economic reasons. Creative ones. Although, the shirts only cost around $5.00 to make. Not too shabby. Well, I started last night. I was going for a simple, folksy, peasanty type look. Only 3 pieces. Front, back and the sleeves. I then used some fold over elastic to make the "casing" around the neck and sleeves. I'm contemplating posting pictures of them, but I'm not sure if I want my blaring mistakes to be viewed. Plus, they are a little, is young, the right word. I'm sure it's just the fabric. Yellowish/orange gingham and a simple paisley. I bought some inexpensive stuff to start out with. I'm way out of practice. This way, if I make a mess of things, I don't feel so bad. I think I might wear one of them around the house today. I'm not exactly sure if I'm ready to debut it to the public yet.

I took Home Economics in the 7th grade. We made homemade Espirit bags. You know, the big, square cotton bags that had a pocket in the middle front and it said Espirit on it. Does anyone remember those? I'm probably really dating myself by mentioning them. I had an original as well as my homemade version. I remember how badly I wanted one and how excited I was when I finally got it. It really wasn't very practical, but I thought that I was pretty cool for having it. (I've tried finding a picture of one. Sadly, I cannot.)

I even made other projects, like dresses. Dresses for myself and for little girls. I have no idea where they are now. Hopefully, they've been burned by now because they were probably hideous. I just remember that I had a lot of fun working on them and that's why I'm trying (emphasis on the trying part) to sew again.

I loved my Esprit bag in 7th grade, my mom didn't when I put my glasses in the big front pocket and they fell out and were gone forever. I didn't want to have any cute boys see me in them so I took them off in the hall between classes of course I was so blind that I had to squint a lot to see if the boys were even cute so I'm sure I looked just as stupid if not more so but try to tell that to a 7th grader huh? Anyway, I am rambling but I do remember the bags!!

You should post pictures! I would love to see. I would like to take up sewing again....although I don't know if I have the patience.

I totally remember those Esprit bags too, though I was never lucky enough to get one. My mom must have realized how impractical they were!
Yes, post pictures of what you've made!!! Maybe I'll work up the courage to post pictures of the things I sew every once in a while.
